What's Next

Environmental and Detail Design Study for the south portion of Highway 11 2+1 has been initiated.

About the Project

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained AECOM Canada Ltd. (AECOM) to undertake the Detail Design and Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for the proposed Highway 11 2+1 Roadway Model Project. This Assignment includes the reconstruction and implementation of a 2+1 Roadway Model on two sections of Highway 11, located in the District of Nipissing, north of the City of North Bay.

Aerial view of a straight two-lane highway running through a dense forest with vibrant autumn foliage. On the left side of the road, there is a large blue lake surrounded by trees, while the right side is covered with colorful forest in shades of red, orange, yellow, and green. A few vehicles are visible traveling along the highway under a clear sky.

Class Environmental Assessment Process & Schedule

This Study will follow the approved planning process for a Group ‘B’ project under the Ministry of Transportation Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (amended 2000) (Class EA). Alternatives will be generated and evaluated based on technical and environmental factors and in consultation with Indigenous Communities, public, stakeholders, municipalities and government agencies.

Consultation

Meaningful public and stakeholder consultation is a crucial step in shaping the outcome of the Study. The Project Team has developed a consultation program that will:

  • Provide stakeholders with access to study information in a timely manner that enables them to provide input and participate in a meaningful way;
  • Engage the broader community and give consideration to all input and differing points of view; and,
  • Promote a cooperative and productive consultation environment that recognizes the value of dialogue and that everyone may not agree with every decision.
